History: Here

Personality: Benimaru is crass and short-tempered, having a low tolerance for bullshit. He's also very outspoken, which often lands him in trouble. While he's foul-mouthed and blunt, Benimaru also cares deeply for those around him — he's just not terribly overt in his affection. While cursing out a local named Kantaro — newly turned into an Infernal, seeking destruction of their city — he also gave him a proper send off and ended his pain in the typical Asakusa way. As he's known as the strongest Captain around, Benimaru is self-assured in his strength, but he's never cocky or grandiose. Despite being known as mouthy at best, he's also strangely charismatic; Konro, his lieutenant, has commented a few times that Benimaru has a magnetism about him, a sort of charm that no one can deny. Indeed, he's well-liked around Asakusa, hardly able to go down the street without a number of townsfolk calling to him to come drink with them, or to take their gifts.

When he does drink, he can't help but smile continuously — a trait that gets him picked on, even by the reverent and fond Konro. He also has a liking for gambling, though he's not always the best with it.

He's straightforward, not so fond of the bureaucratic red tape and appointments typical of the way the other Companies do things. It's just a hassle to him, and he doesn't see the point in beating around the proverbial bush. He's called on time and time again to help with training the younger members of the 8th Company, and while he complains a little about having to do so, he still goes through with training them — and he does it well. While his methods can be sometimes harsh or strange — once hazing Shinra and Arthur without really having much of a point to it — he always seeks his charges' betterment and growth.

Benimaru is notably against the Church that governs his world nigh-entirely; he holds no love or reverence for their God, their practices, their ways of living. Even rude to the Emperor, Raffles III, Benimaru makes his distaste well-known. In fact, the only reason his Company is a part of the Fire Force at all is because of their pure skill with fighting Infernals and putting out their fires.

He even went so far as to launch an attack on the Church himself — paired up with Joker, a mysterious man who had, until then, acted as villainous against a friend of Benimaru's. His deep mistrust of the Church and most in it was not misplaced, and his intuition about most things is generally correct.

He does carry with him a strong sense of justice, however, but he just prefers to do things his way — the Asakusa way. When he was fooled by the White-Clad seeking to sow discord and chaos among the Asakusa people — by impersonating one another and making Benimaru believe that the 8th Company had turned Kantaro into an Infernal — he was quick to attack them in the name of retaliation and horror at "their" actions.

CR-AU: N/A

Physical description: Standing at 5'5", Benimaru is built solid. His hair is messy and a little long, about nape-length; his eyes are unique, boasting glowing pink irises with an 'O' in the right, and an 'X' in the left. Otherwise, there's not many notable features about him.

Meta Powers Benimaru is known as the strongest Captain of any of the Special Fire Force Companies. He's a "hybrid" of 2nd and 3rd Generation Pyrokinetics, which means he has excellent control of the flames he generates.

He uses matoi to attack quite often, immolating their ends and either using that to fly, or launching them at his enemies. He's also a practitioner of a unique martial art called Iaido, combined with his pyrokinesis abilities.

Below is a list of his techniques, all some form of fire used in conjunction with an Iaido form:

Fire Moon • Sun Wheel • Breath of Life • Moonlight • Iai Hand-Sword • Crimson Moon • Daybreak • Red Sun • Sunset • Crimson Moon's Sun Wheel.

Notable/Unique Needs: N/A

Earth AU

Earth AU Name: Benimaru Shinmon
Earth AU Age: 22
Trigger Warnings: Family (father) death and injury by fire, PTSD symptoms

History: Benimaru was abandoned at birth in Japan; to this day he doesn't know — or really even care — who his birth parents are. A stern and harsh man adopted him, for reasons Benimaru never knew. This man was, perhaps, not the greatest candidate for fatherhood, but Benimaru loved him all the same, in his way.

His father was a firefighter Chief and believed in his work and the camaraderie that came with it; Benimaru spent much of his youth playing in the station, quietly taking in the adult conversations around him. He did well in school, though he was disinterested in the subjects. Though he quickly picked up on the Firefighters' crass and coarse ways of speaking and conducting himself, Benimaru was still pretty popular at school. It didn't bother him, but you wouldn't know that; he seemed to be inconvenienced by all the friendship and affection.

Life wore on, sort of quietly, as Benimaru went through school. He didn't bother to attend college, instead deciding to join up with the firefighters he so adored right after high school graduation. He was hazed pretty roughly, even by his father, but it wouldn't deter him in the slightest. No, Beni knew what he wanted to do, and he would see it through.

Around Benimaru's nineteenth birthday, his father's death came, quite suddenly. It was during a particularly fearsome and wild fire; reckless as always, he wasn't able to make it out alive. This disturbed Benimaru — despite having told himself he was prepared for such a tragedy, it still came as a major shock, to say the least. He moved in with a friend of his father's.

It seemed as though Benimaru wasn't quite able to shake off the horror at his father's death. He came to be terrified of fire, balking where he shouldn't have, or freezing up on calls. This lasted for a short while — at least to the eyes of his guardian and comrades. In truth, Benimaru was so ashamed of his own weakness that he pushed past the fear, perhaps foolishly and recklessly. He bottled it up, in short, and it came to a head when he turned twenty.

The breakdown that ensued wasn't pretty. It happened on a call in the same place that his father had met his end in; he woke up in the hospital, the call a blur. With fresh burns across his torso and broken ribs from a part of the building falling on him, Benimaru was told that he broke down, and he was to take some time off even after he healed up.

Instead, his guardian insisted they move to America; he had some friends out that way, and being in the place where Benimaru's father died was just too much, too painful, and it was plainly damaging him. It would just be for a little while, or so he was told, and Benimaru agreed — a bit reluctant and ashamed at "running away". He knew, however, in his heart that recovering from his nightmares and baggage would be the best thing for him. He knew his father wouldn't want to see him so hollow, so broken.

Then came his event memory shortly thereafter...

Personality: Main differences from Benimaru's canon personality and self are that, while he's still foul-mouthed and often crass, he's also a lot more gentle. The big talk and coarse language is mostly because he feels like it will protect him, somehow. Yet he's more openly compassionate, though he still prefers to show his kindness through action more than through mere lip service.

He smiles easier than he did in his canon, able to joke around a bit more with his friends. Being that he's no longer the "strongest" fighter around, he's a lot more vulnerable, prone to shutting down when flashbacks start. He's also prone to anxiety and agitation; his anxiety manifests as a need for control, and sometimes he snaps at people close to him.

He has a wide circle of friends and acquaintances, even in New York, but he feels as though he's not terribly close to anyone. No one "really" knows him, so there's some feelings of loneliness and isolation. Sometimes he doesn't mind this. Sometimes he minds a lot. Benimaru can be a little moody, but its usually masked up so others don't see him so vulnerable. He's hiding it from himself as well, however, and it seems like he feels that bottling up or dampening certain emotions until he can feel them privately is the best way to deal with said emotions.

Physical description: The same as his canon self, except his eyes are now brown and markless.

Here's a reality check: this Bureau nonsense is unsettling, and you should feel unsettled. Some of you seem too chill about it.

Support groups? Really? I don't trust like that.

You really should wake up.
